Study documentation
Survey topics
The areas covered by the completed 23-question online survey.
Demographics and background
The questionnaire asked about age group, occupation or main role, cultural background, and family attitudes toward quiet time.
Experiences of stillness
Questions explored first associations with stillness, comfort with being alone with thoughts, how often respondents sought quiet, and feelings after a recent quiet moment.
Ideas, insights, and productivity pressure
Respondents answered separate questions about when their best ideas typically arise and whether stillness had ever led to an important personal insight. These questions measure different experiences and should not be combined.
The survey also asked about productivity guilt, perceived sources of pressure to stay busy, changing comfort with stillness, and the importance of regular quiet moments.
Technology and barriers
Respondents estimated non-work device use, described perceived smartphone effects, and selected their biggest barrier to stillness.
Written reflections and follow-up fields
The survey included an optional written reflection, advice for someone who struggles with quiet, a follow-up interest question, an optional contact field, and a question about how respondents found the survey. Follow-up interest does not constitute interview evidence. The completed analysis focuses on survey responses.
